The Cabinet of Ministers have granted approval to sign the documents to obtain Rs 600 Million worth Indian grant to carry out the project to improve the infrastructure of upcountry plantation schools.
The Cabinet has previously approved to carry out the project in 2019, as India had initially declared that they would provide a grant of Rs 300million. However with Sri Lanka's economic crisis the project had faced obstacles as the equipment and material prices increased.
Therefore the Indian government had agreed to double the grant to Rs 600million. Accordingly the Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha's proposal to sign the documents to obtain the grant had been approved by the cabinet, a statement on Cabinet memorandum said.
