Popular sovereignty only solution for current crisis : Ven. Rathna Thero

Ven Athuraliye Rathna thero has said that the best way to resolve the current political crisis is to give room for the sovereignty of people´s rule. 

Addressing a ‘National Sustainablity program’ at the 'Sadaham Sewana' Buddhist organisation yesterday (Dec 02), Rathna thero said the people used their sovereign right to elect a President who has now used his sovereign power to remove a Prime Minister and form a new government.

He added that Ranil Wickremesinghe has lost the confidence of the people although he has the majority in Parliament.

“The President had to appoint Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister since Ranil Wickremesinghe and his associates destroyed the country each and every day,” Rathna thero further said.

The Ven. Thero also went on to say that although the UNPers claim that he was brought into Parliament on the national list, the members of the UNP faction would not have been able to hold ministerial portfolios had he not backed Maithripala Sirisena to become President in 2015.

The work plan of the ‘National Sustainability program’ was presented by Ven. Rathna Thero to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa who had graced the occasion.
