The Postal Department has so far delivered 11, 765 packages of medicines to patients' homes island-wide n line with the programme launched by the Government to deliver medicines directly to homes due to the curfew imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The largest number of packages has been delivered in the Kandy district, with 1891 medicine packages delivered to people's homes, while 1298 have been delivered to homes in the Colombo district. A total of 1209 packages has also been delivered in the Ratnapura district. All other districts have package deliveries ranging from over 900 to less than 50.
Packages include orders placed via state run "Osu Sala" pharmacies as well as through state hospitals. Accordingly, 2695 packages have been delivered based on orders placed to Osu Salas while medicines have also been delivered to homes concerning 9070 orders placed at state hospitals.
The programme to deliver medicines directly to people's homes during curfew will continue, the statement added.
