President asks Dilrukshi to reveal politicians who influenced filing of Avant Garde case

News

President Maithripala Sirisena today (Sept 21) said he would inform Solicitor General Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe to reveal the politicians who had exerted undue influence to take legal action against the Avant-Garde floating armoury.

Former minister Keheliya Rambukwella, this week revealed a telephone recording alleged to have taken place between Ms. Wickremesinghe, the former Director General of the Bribery Commission and the Chairman of Avant Garde Maritime Services Nissanka Senadhipathi.

In the telephone recording, the individual believed to be Ms. Wickremesinghe regretted the action taken against the floating armoury which is alleged to have caused massive losses to the government.

Against this backdrop, the former Bribery Commission Director General, took to her Facebook page and said that the telephone conversation has been "distorted" and "edited".

Accordingly, she requested Avant Garde Chairman Senadhipathi to reveal the full audio clip and to publicise the name of the minister through whom he had called her.

She also noted that she could not comment on the details of the conversation since she is a public official.

The Appeal Court recently ordered the Colombo Magistrate's Court to acquit the eight suspects including former defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa over the case which had been filed by the Bribery Commission.
