President Gotabaya Rajapaksa reiterated once again today that the government needs two third majority in the next Parliament in order to effect constitutional changes in the Constitution where certain provisions which he claimed as adverse to the country's stability needed to be changed.
Speaking with the media heads of national newspapers today, President Rajapaksa noted that some ‘so-called’ independent commissions which were setup after enactment of 19th Amendment are not independent as they claimed to be.
He indicated one instance where one of the Commissioners of the Election Commission wrote biased newspaper articles during the Presidential elections.
President Rajapaksa also questioned the need of the Police Commission when the Inspector General of Police (IGP) is in place. “Is the IGP not independent?,”
Responding to a question on the recent remark made by former Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa that he could work with him as Prime Minister, President Rajapaksa said he is looking forward to work with the party that has policies similar to his and as of now only Sri Lanka Podhujana Peramuna (SLPP) has similar policies.
