President Maithripala Sirisena today (Aug 1) said he would intervene and resolve the issues of graduate teachers in the estates by holding talks with the Education Ministry and the relevant provincial councils.
Last month, it was revealed in Parliament that newly-appointed teachers had been assigned to teach subjects which were not relevant to their degrees.
Addressing the opening of a new building worth Rs 9 million at a school in Haputale, the President noted that avenues must be created to provide children in the estates an opportunity of pursuing higher studies.
He observed that the government has been providing facilities for all schools in order to provide students equal access to education.
