Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is currently spending a holiday in Ireland where Sri Lanka has no diplomatic representation at present.
Though the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the UK is concurrently accredited to the Irish republic, the last high commissioner who presented credentials in Dublin was Kshenuka Senewiratne, nearly 10 years ago.
Since then there has been no accredited high commissioner.
Prime Minister Wickremesinghe who is on a private visit is expected to return to Colombo by the new year well in time to greet Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif due in Colombo in the first week of January.
The precise date of his departure from Ireland is not yet known but it is expected that he will be in Colombo to celebrate the new year.
