Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has issued a condolence message upon the demise of Professor Carlo Fonseka, who he said had guided the country into a different era of science.
Prof. Fonseka, a physicist and an academist who believed in the modern trends of science, had defeated myths that existed in the early 1970's by rational scientific explanations, the Prime Minister pointed out in his message.
He added that the late professor whose political policies had been centered around socialism, had contributed to the field of politics as a mediator at all times.
Mr. Wickremesinghe also stated that a large number of medical students have benefitted by him during his period as a lecturer and a professor in the education sector.
He also recalled the few songs produced by Prof. Fonseka which had won the hearts of many people.
Prof. Fonseka passed away at the age of 86 following a brief illness at his residence. His remains were handed over to the Medical Faculty of the University of Kelaniya, upon his last will, last evening.
