Six prisoners who had been protesting at the Welikada Prison this week have called off their demonstration last evening.
The inmates, including those on a death row, had objected to the President’s decision to Royal Park death row murder convict Shramantha Jayamaha.
A Prisons Department official said the protest had been called off after the prisoners’ demands had been sent to the President, upon the intervention of prison officials.
President Maithripala Sirisena, last week, pardoned Anthony Jayamaha who was convicted of murdering 19-year-old Swedish national Yvonne Jonsson.
