Private buses operating along the Chilaw - Kurunegala route have launched a strike action this afternoon due to the addition of two new buses to its route and the Bingiriya - Kurunegala bus route.
Bus owners claim that these additions had been made in violation of an agreement that they had signed with the North Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority.
According to bus owners, there are 51 buses operating in the area and that an agreement had been signed to prevent the addition of new buses to the route.
However, a spokesman for the Chilaw bus depot said the buses had been included to increase bus services provided to the passengers in the area.
