The Sectoral Oversight Committee on National Security has proposed a ban on face veils and head coverings that hinder the facial identification of any individuals. The proposal to ban such face coverings was among a set of recommendations made by the Committee's report which was presented to Parliament yesterday (19).
The Committee, headed by UPFA Malith Jayathilake, further proposes that the practice of registering political parties based on race and religion.
Meanwhile, the Committee has also proposed that all students studying in Islamic Madrasas in the country be absorbed into an education scheme coming under the Education Ministry within three years.
The recommendations were among those included in the Committee's report, which proposed solutions to 14 topics that had created debate in society in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday terror attacks.
