Protest in Colombo against Indian poaching
The fishermen unions handed over a petition today to the Indian High Commission calling to put an end to ongoing poaching by their fishermen in Lankan sea.
The fishermen held a protest march from Bambalapitiya to the High Commission to hand over the petition. They also handed over petition to President’s office and Prime Minister office.
All Island Multiday Trawler Owners Association, one of the union participated in the protest said in a statement that president should take immediate steps to provide relief for fishermen who have been affected due to the European Union (EU) ban on Lankan fisheries products.
State minister of fisheries Dileep Wedarachchi also participated in the protest.
