Area residents staged a protest opposite the Leprosy Hospital in Hendala this morning calling on authorities not to quarantine people arriving from Coronavirus-hit countries at the hospital.
The protesters briefly blocked the Hendala-Hekitta Road to vehicular traffic.
The Government earlier announced that all passengers arriving from South Korea, Italy and Iran would undergo a mandatory quarantine period of 14 days. The Leprosy Hospital in Hendala was announced as one of the places where the passengers would be quarantined.
However, area residents say that the hospital is situated in a densly populated area and bringing a large amount of people, some of whom may be carrying the virus, poses a significant risks to people of the area. They are calling on authorities to take steps to take the passengers to less populated area.
