Government employees of the Batticaloa District Secretariat held a protest today condemning the shooting of Batticaloa District Director of the Land Reform Commission, Nesathurai Wimalaraj. Mr. Wimalaraj was shot and injured by two unidentified men at his residence in Kaluwanchikudy last night. He is currently being treated at the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital.
He is also the Land Reform Commission Director for Trincomalee District and the Acting Land Reform Commission Director for the Jaffna District.
The protesting employees demanded that authorities take speedy action to arrest the culprits.
Several police teams have been deployed to trace the suspects.
