Provincial Councils Elections Act to be amended

Cabinet has given the go-ahead to introduce amendments to enact provisions for increasing the quota of women in nominations presented by each party or independent group for each province to a minimum of 30%. The proposal had been made by Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government, Faizer Mustapha

Accordingly, amendments are due to be introduced to the Provincial Councils Elections Act No. 02 of 1988 in this regard. 

The move comes in line with the government's policy of increasing the contribution of women in political decision making at least by 25%.
