The Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) investigating the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks will record a statement from President Maithripala Sirisena on Friday (20).
PSC Chairman, Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri stated that the PSC would convene at the Presidential Secretariat to record the President's statement. However, this session will not be open to the media, he added.
Mr Kumarasiri also said that the PSC would be asking Parliament for a further one-month extension to finalize its report. "September 20th is the final day of our current mandate as things stand now, but since we will be recording evidence from his Excellency the President on the 20th, we will not be able to finalize our report by then. As such, we will be asking Parliament for another month's extension."
Mr Kumarasiri added the motion seeking to extend the PSC's term will be submitted to Parliament this week.
The PSC Chairman said the report will be finalized and submitted to Parliament before the expiration of the new deadline.
