The Railway Locomotive Engine Drivers Union (RLEDU) has called off its strike action which resulted in the delay of several trains earlier today (Feb 22).
Employees of the Maradana Diesel Electric Locomotive Unit began their strike at midnight.
"The strike action was implemented since the duty rosters of these employees were changed and had proved to be unfavourable for them" RLEDU Secretary D.H. Indika told Times Online.
He added that the strike was called off following talks that were held with the General Manager of the Railways Department Dilantha Fernando. The meeting between the two parties had taken place at around 9 am and had lasted for hour.
"A decision was arrived to allow these employees to work according to their previous roster" Mr. Indika remarked adding that the strike was called off due to this reason.
