The Department of Railways is conducting a survey to recover its lands which have been encroached or occupied by unauthorised settlers, a senior official said.
Railways General Manager Dilantha Fernando told Times Online that the survey is being carried out on lands surrounding the Kelani Valley railway line.
Accordingly, more than 20 acres of land in Ratmalana and 10 acres of land between Bambalapitiya and Kollupitiya had been recovered this week, he added.
Mr. Fernando added that the Railways Department hopes to use these lands for various projects such as the construction of hotels.
