Rains bring new hope for Vanni farmers

Heavy rains continue to fall in the Vanni District and other parts of the Northern Province that were hit hard by the drought situation. Several sections of the Vavuniya-Mannar main road were inaundated due to the heavy rains, while flooding was also reported along several byroads, causing severe disruptions to traffic. 

However, the rains have given new hope for farmers in the region as the crops which were in danger of being destroyed due to drought are now likely to provide a rich harvest.
