Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has handed over his resignation letter to the Presidential Secretariat and will address the nation this afternoon (Nov 20), sources said.
Sources added that Wickremesinghe who leads the United National Party (UNP) has called for a meeting with all parties constituting the UNP-led Democratic National Front alliance.
Matters concerning the parliamentary election and the restructuring of the UNP is expected to figure during meeting which is expected to take place at 5 pm.
Meanwhile MP Dinesh Gunawardena is tipped to take on the role of Prime Minister under the caretaker Cabinet to be appointed by the President till the General Elections are held.
