The Election Commission (EC) says it has only received the final postal voting results of three districts so far, and that more time would be required to release them.
Issuing a statement, EC Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya said that counting of postal votes have been completed at 103 centres out of the total 371 set-up for this purpose.
He noted that the results from some 70 counting centres have been received by the EC. However, less than 30 of them have been tabulated by the EC’s District Offices, Deshapriya said.
Meanwhile, the polls chief noted that postal voting results of the Kegalle District too could be delayed as ballot boxes had reached the counting centres after 10 pm.
The counting of ballots cast by the general public during yesterday’s presidential election will take place across 1179 centres.
