Retired train drivers will be deployed to operate rail services from Monday, due to the ongoing strike action by railway employees, Railways General Manager Dilantha Fernando said.
The Transport Ministry, in June, recruited retired train engine drivers, train controllers, station masters, rail signal inspectors, and rail track inspectors to be deployed during strikes.
Mr. Fernando said that talks would be held with retired officers tomorrow, and should talks with present employees fail, they would be deployed to operate trains from Monday.
Railway employees are engaged in an indefinite strike which entered its third day today (Sept 28), owing to salary anomalies in their sector.
However, the Railways General Manager said that seven trains had operated today.
