Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a congratulatory message for his newly elected Sri Lankan counterpart Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
In his message, Putin had expressed hope that “bilateral dialogue” and “constructive cooperation” between both countries would be strengthened under Rajapaksa’s rule.
This he had said would assist in strengthening regional stability and security.
"The Russian-Sri Lankan relations are of traditionally friendly nature," the message translated from Russian read. "I wish you every success, good health and prosperity."
