SAITM CEO's shooting was staged - Police
Police today said that the shooting incident targetting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) Dr. Sameera Senaratne was staged in order to portray that the CEO's life was under threat.
Police have already arrested a suspect from Embilipitiya with two pistols and live ammunition in connection with the case.
According to police, investigations have also pointed to the involvement of a former Pradeshiya Sabha member and a driver attached to a local government authority in connection with the alleged staged shooting.
Both these individuals have gone into hiding, police added.
The incident occurred on the night of February 6. Dr. Senaratne at the time, claimed two men wearing full-face helmets opened fire on his car while he was on his way home from work.
