Deans of eight medical faculties of state universities met Minister of Health Dr Rajitha Senaratne yesterday to discuss the possible solution of the SAITM issue which has sparked off a string of protests.
Dr Senaratne said that at the meeting he will be pointing out the Deans on how the Kothalawala Defence Academy obtained approval for the Medical college they set up.
The discussion is expected to focus around a discussion put forward by the Deans who have laid down suggestions.
Students continued to agitate as medical faculty students boycotted lectures while the Government Medical Officers Association have threatened to resort to more trade union action.
Chairman of SAITM Dr Neville Fernando has vowed to continue with registration until the matter is discussed with the Higher Education Minister Lakshman Kiriella.
