Salawa explosion: Road blocked, residents demand removal of debris

The Colombo-Avissawella (High Level) Road has been blocked near the Kosgama army camp in Salawa by area residents this afternoon. 

The residents are holding a protest and demanding that authorities take steps to clear the debris from their homes, which sustained damage due to the explosion at the camp's ammunition dump on June 5. 

Many houses and other buildings in the area have sustained severe damage due to the incident and efforts are continuing to clear the debris from the houses. 

However, the Colombo-Avissawella Road which had been closed for traffic since the incident, was reopened last evening. Area residents complain that though the road has been opened for traffic, not enough has been done to clear debris and repair the houses that were damaged.
