Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi has given the go-ahead for beauty parlours and salons to reopen while strictly adhering to health sector guidelines aimed at minimising the spread of COVID-19.
During a meeting with senior professionals in the beauty culture field yesterday (4), the minister pointed out that laws related to beauty culture can only be drafted by the Health Ministry. Accordingly, she said it was currently in the process of formulating a set of guidelines that should be followed by beauty parlours and salons once they open, the ministry stated in a media release
Representatives of the beauty culture industry who took part at the discussion pointed out that though beauty parlours and salons were closed down after the outbreak of COVID-19, some persons are carrying out practices in secret. They noted that this presented a serious danger to public health as in many instances, such persons were disregarding health sector guidelines when operating their businesses.
Pointing out that about 200, 000 persons depend on the beauty culture industry for their livelihood, they pledged to follow all guidelines issued by the Health Ministry when operating their businesses.
