The  United National Party (UNP) led alliance ‘Samagi Jana Balawegaya’ was launched at the  Nelum Pokuna Theatre in Colombo, today with Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa presiding over the event.

Parties joiing the alliance signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the alliance.t.

At the Sunday night's UNP working committee meeting the possible symbol for the alliance was discussed,  but final agreement could not reached as senior members of the UNP including party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe insisted that they should contest under the UNP symbol.

Mr Wickremesinghe did not attend the event  to launch the new alliance.
