The Supreme Court has instructed the Attorney General to file a charge sheet on August 27 against a private tutor for threatening Parliamentarian Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe within the premises of the court.
Rohan Kondagoda, the private tutor, had been arrested for threatening Mr. Rajapakshe during a brief interval when the petition against the bill to amend the Holidays Act was taken up for hearing today.
However, he had been released on two surety bails of Rs 500,000 by a three-member judge bench headed by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya.
A petition had been filed challenging the Mr. Rajapakshe’s bill to ban tuition classes on Sundays and on Poya days, by citing that certain clauses were unconstitutional.
The petitioners had named the Attorney General as a respondent to the petition. However, Mr. Rajapakshe had appeared before the court as an intervening party to the respondents today.
