The Supreme Court today (Jan 31) issued an interim injuction to bar Baqian Law Group Lanka Pvt. Ltd. from functioning as a private law firm in Sri Lanka following a petition that was filed to this effect.
A fundamental rights petition was filed at the Supreme Court challenging the function of the said company as a private law firm. The petition was filed by Justice Nayanna Wijesuriya.
The petitioner had claimed that the advertisements of the company had been issued in violation of court laws. He also claimed that the establishment of this company as a private law firm was a threat to local law firms.
The Registrar of the company and the Attorney General have been named as respondents in the case.
Meanwhile court also announced that the petition would be heard from October onwards.
