The Supreme Court has issued an interim order preventing the arrest of former Navy Commander Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda today (Mar 07).
This was announced when the fundamental rights petition filed by Admiral Karannagoda through his lawyers was taken up before the Supreme Court.
Court had also instructed the former Navy Commander to provide a statement before the Criminal Investigations Department on March 11.
President’s Counsel Romesh Silva representing the petitioner had claimed that certain non-governmental organisations were plotting his client’s arrest.
He had also said that the country should be grateful to his client for his efforts during the war.
The former Navy Commander has been named as the 14th suspect in the case pertaining to the abduction of youths in 2008/09.
