School hours in the south have been extended by an hour to cover-up missed lessons following the terrorist attacks, Governor Keerthi Tennakoon said.
"This decision was taken following requests made by several schools since they had missed academic sessions after the terrorist attacks on April 21," the Southern Governor told Times Online.
He pointed out than more than 100 schools have already extended their school hours to cover up missed lessons.
"Eighty-five percent of schools have not completed their syllabus," Mr Tennakoon noted. However, he said that it was not compulsory for schools to follow the one-hour extension.
Accordingly, schools who wish to abide by the one hour extension will be able to begin sessions at 7:30 am and end at 2:30 pm.
