The Ministry of Education announced today that all the schools will commence their academic year today except the 68 schools which are being used for the marking of GCE Ordinary Level examination answer scripts. Meanwhile all the government and semi-private schools will be closed on the 7th, 8th and 9th of January as the school principals and teachers will be performing election duties in view of the upcoming presidential polls.
Customs have detected 228 mobile phones and tabs valued at over Rs 30 million left behind in the duty free shopping complex at the Banaranaike International Airport today, Customs officials said.
