Avant-Garde Chairman Nissanka Senadhipathi, accused of involvement in the illegal floating armoury case has been remanded until December 3, after being denied bail.
The order was issued by a Colombo High Court trial-at-bar when the case was taken up for hearing today (Nov 8).
During today's hearing, Senadhipathi's lawyers requested court to release their client on bail.
However, the Attorney General (AG)'s Department which is prosecuting the case, raised objections citing that the Avant Garde Maritime Services Chairman had absconded court intentionally on previous occasions.
Previously, the AG had charged 13 suspects including Senadhipathi, for illegally storing firearms and ammunition in merchant vessels owned by his company, and also for providing false evidence over the case.
The suspects face 7573 charges for violating the Firearms Ordinance, Explosives Ordinance, and the Penal Code. The case is being taken up before High Court judges Dhammika Ganepola, Aditya Patabendige and Manjula Thilakaratne.
