State foreign affairs minister Wasantha Senanayake today (Nov 8) pledged support to presidential candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa by attending his rally in Manampitiya which is underway.
Yesterday, Senananayake, told a news conference he would not consider returning to the United National Party (UNP), through which he had been elected to Parliament.
The UNP last month announced that Senanayake had been expelled from the party, in the wake of his remarks against the campaigning team of presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa.
However, Senanayake told reporters that he cannot tolerate the manner in which the party had treated him in the past.
Accordingly, he said that he would work under Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) presidential candidate Rajapaksa, if voted into power.
