Senior Examinations Dept. official interdicted

The Deputy Commissioner who served as Head of the Department of Examination's Confidential and Institutional Examinations Division has been interdicted over several serious allegations. 

The Ministry of Education stated that the official faced several charges with regard to negligence and misconduct. 

Accordingly, Education Ministry Secretary Sunil Hettiarachchi today issued the letter suspending the official with immediate effect with the approval of the Education Services Committee of the Public Service Commission. 

On the instructions of Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, a special investigation has already commenced into examinations conducted in the past by the Department of Examinations, paper marking, preparing of question papers, appointment of members to the question paper preparation boards and protecting the confidentiality of exams.
