Senior politicians should dedicate themselves to the causes of the country: Speaker

News

Speaker Karu Jayasuirya appealed to all senior politicians that they should dedicate themselves for the sake of the country despite political differences.

The speaker  addressing a gathering at the foundation laying ceremony of Sri Lanka's largest conference hall in Galle  said that politicians should not continue to engage in a hostile manner after the elections, but instead come together to solve the problems of the country without allowing them to be passed on and instead work towards a  rogressive country.

"The country's senior politicians must resolve these issues without animosity following the elections in order to create a better future for the younger generations to come," he said.

The Speaker also pointed out that Sri Lanka cannot suffer from disunity and political problems since it has many other issues to face including being among those countries most suseptible to the effects of climate change.

While stating that democracy is the best gift that can be given to the future generations to come, the Speaker said that the value of democracy is understood only when it is not in existence.

"We can realise how inspirational democracy is when we observe the lives of the people who live in undemocratic countries" the Speaker remarked.

The Speaker lauded the construction activities that are taking place under the directives of Minister Vajira Abeywardena, by stating that the building will serve as the symbol of the Galle district.

Minister of Internal Affairs Vajira Abeywardena, Souther Chief Minister Shan Wijelal, MPS, Wijepla Hettiarachchi, Bandulal Bandarigoda, Manusha Nanayakkara, and Piyasena Gamage were also present at the event.
