Several police teams deployed to arrest Gnanasara Thera

Several police teams have been deployed to arrest General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera, Police Headquarters stated. 

Issuing a media release, police further stated that Gnanasara Thera is wanted on several charges including obstruction and threatening of police and making hateful statements aimed at creating disunity between communities. 

On a request made by police, the Aluthkada No.04 Magistrate's Court has issued a court order prohibiting the Thera from leaving the country. 

Police further said that Gnanasara Thera had been asked to come to the Organized Crimes Division to provide a statement regarding complaints made against him. However, the Thera has continued to avoid these summons, the police statement added.
