The Elections Commission (EC) has gazetted the name of Shantha Bandara to fill the vacancy created in Parliament following the demise of parliamentarian Salinda Dissanayake.
The seat of Mr. Dissanayake, who represented the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) from the Kurunegala district, had fallen vacant following his demise last month.
Accordingly, the EC had gazetted the name of former provincial minister D.B. Herath to fill the vacannt seat.
However, the UPFA had nominated Mr. Bandara to fill the vacant seat, since Mr. Herath had obtained the membership of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).
Mr. Bandara had previously resigned from the UPFA's national list of parliamentarians in a bid to fill the vacant seat.
