Sri Lanka, upon agreement with India, has decided to auction 174 Indian fishing boats which have been seized due to poaching, Fisheries State Minister Dileep Wedaarachchi said.
Mr. Wedaarachchi noted that seven representatives of the Indian government had held talks with the Fisheries Ministry yesterday (Sept 12).
During the discussion, Indian officials had observed that some boats are not in a usable condition and could not be returned to the Indian fishermen.
Accordingly, it had been agreed to sell these vessels in an auction and to provide the money earned through the sale to the Indian fishermen.
