The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) yesterday (6) for the first time used dry chemical powder in fighting the fire on the MT New Diamond tanker, the SLAF said.
A Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the 7th regiment of the SLAF dropped 1000 kilograms of dry chemical powder on to the ill-fated tanker effectively controlling the fire.
Also an MI 17 helicopter belonging to the 6th regiment dropped approximately 100,000 litres of water yesterday (6) adding up the total amount of water dropped since September 3 to approximately 440,000 litres.
