The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will make a final call on its proposed alliance with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) next Monday, party sources said.
According to the source, the decision would be made during a meeting of the SLFP Central Committee which would be convened by the President on Monday (Sept 29).
Meanwhile, a senior party member said that the SLFP may resort to fielding its own presidential candidate if its members do not agree on forming an alliance with the SLPP.
The party member noted that a majority of the SLFPers have held that they would not agree on forming the alliance if atleast certain conditions are not favorable to them.
The SLFP has been repeatedly urging the SLPP to form a new symbol, should both parties form an alliance to contest the polls. However, the request has not drawn a favourable response from their counterparts.
