SLMC calls for speedy probe into grenade attack
The Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) today called for a speedy investigation into the grenade attack on their head office.
Speaking at a media briefing today, SLMC Chairman Professor Carlo Fonseka alleged that police were yet to provide the SLMC with any reports or information regarding the investigation. He noted that six such attacks have taken place on the SLMC over the years but not a single culprit had ever been arrested.
"We are a Government institution which is independent, We set the quality standards, practises and create security for the medical service. It is clear that these attacks are done to intimidate us and oblige us to do certain activities in favour of certain groups” he said.
He however, insisted that SLMC members will not be intimidated.
Prof Fonseka said that they have requested Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jaysundara to provide 24-hour police protection to the headoffice while providing security to each member of the council.
