The Police Headquarters has released a special traffic plan in keeping with the Car Free Day project which will be in effect tomorrow (Jul 14).
According to the traffic plan, the following roads will be restricted for traffic from 6 am until 12 pm, police said.
Road from Horton Place Roundabout to Public Library roundabout will be closed for vehicles travelling towards Colombo
Alternative route for vehicles leaving Colombo:
Dr C.W.W Kannangara Mawatha – F.R. Senanayake Mawatha (the route for vehicles heading out of Colombo will remain open in these roads)
Only buses and area residents will be allowed to travel through the Horton Place roundabout on C.W.W Kannangara Mawatha and then towards Nanda Motors through the right-side vehicle track.
Alternative route for other vehicles: Horton Place
The road from the roundabout at Independence Avenue to Independence Square will be closed off completely.
Only buses and area residents will be allowed to travel from Nanda Motors to Independence Square through Independence Avenue on the right-side vehicle track.
Buses must use Reid Avenue.
The road from the Independence Avenue Roundabout to Maitland Crescent roundabout will be closed off completely.
The road from Stanley Wijesundera Mawatha to the roundabout at Padanama Mawatha will be closed off completely.
Alternative route: Bullers’ Junction
The road from Public Library roundabout to Glass House roundabout, Nanda Motors Roundabout and Horton Place roundabout will be closed for traffic.
Accordingly, vehicles entering Colombo from Thurstan Road through Glass House roundabout will be able to travel towards the Public Library Roundabout by taking a left turn from Glass House Roundabout.
Only buses and vehicles of area residents will be able to exit Colombo through the Colombo roundabout. The alternate route for other vehicles: Enter Duplication Road through Liberty roundabout after taking a right turn from the Public Library Roundabout.
