The Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) has inducted its first Vikram-class offshore patrol vessel (OPV).
According to Jane's 360, The 74.1 m vessel, which has been named Suraksha with pennant number 60, was commissioned into the SLCG on October 21 at a ceremony in Colombo port.
Suraksha was previously in service with the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) as ICGS Varuna. The platform was launched by Indian shipbuilder Mazagon Dock Limited in January 1986, and retired from the ICG on August 23, 2017.
In the past 10 years prior to its retirement, Suraksha was a cadet training ship with the Indian Navy (IN’s) 1st Training Squadron, which trains cadets from the ICG and the IN.
