Sri Lanka Police sent out a public appeal on Thursday seeking ‘dedicated’ volunteers to join Community Policing Committees across the country, seen as an effort to reduce the crime rate.
In a newspaper notice, Police said volunteers would be coopted to 486 Regional Police Advisory Committees and 14,068 Community Policing Committees “formed with the intention of firmly establishing the newly introduced community policing concept” in order to realise the objective of building a crime-free country through reconciliation.
An application form to join these groups, in the notice, called for details like NIC number, civil status, profession and any other position held in civil organisations.
The notice said: “We respectfully invite talented and skilled professionals, responsible citizens and youths who have gained recognition in their respective villages and willing to volunteer and dedicate themselves for the country to join hands with Sri Lanka Police to make an intellectual contribution towards bringing about law and order, reconciliation and prosperity in the country.” - ENDS -
