STF and police personnel have arrested 13 individuals who attempted to leave the country illegally by boat last afternoon.
The arrest was made at two lodging houses in Pannagamuwa and Aluthkade respectively.
Accordingly, six males, three females and four children were taken into custody by STF personnel and handed over to the Tissamaharama Police.
Meanwhile, the driver of a lorry which was used to tranport the goods of the illegal migrants was also arrested along with the managers of both lodges.
The suspects who are are residents of Meegamuwa, Halawatha, and Tissamaharama were between the ages of four and 59.
They are due to be produced before the Tissamaharama Magistrates' Court today (Feb 15).
