A police investigation has been launched after stones were thrown at the complex housing the Buddha Statue of the Sri Naga Viharaya at Ariyakulam Junction in Jaffna, causing damage to the complex.
The stones had been thrown last night (9) and the attack had broken some of the glass panes in the complex housing the Buddha Statue.
The Jaffna Police states that CCTV footage had picked up a motorbike suspected to have been used by those who carried out the attack.
Chief Incumbent of the Sri Naga Viharaya, Ven. Meegahajadure Sri Wimala Thera said he believes that someone motivated by extremist ideals had carried out the attack to create communal disharmony in the area.
