A student of Bolana Maha Vidyalaya in Ambalantota died this morning while taking part in the school's annual sports meet, local media reported.
Reports said the victim a 15 year old, Grade 10 student of the school, had fallen down while running during a 5km marathon and had died after being admitted to the Ambalantota hospital.
The victim has been identified as Chamodh Sathsara, a resident of Ruhunu Ridiyagama, Ambalantota.
The marathon, commenced from the Ridiyagama tank and was due to finish at the Bolana Maha Vidyalaya.
The body is currently lying at the Ambalantota hospital pending a post-mortem inquiry. Investigations are being conducted by the Ambalantota police.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
