Summons were issued on two former top state officials including the former President’s chief-of-staff to appear before the Special High Court over a bribery case on July 8.
The former state officials have been accused of soliciting a Rs 20 million bribe to assist a businessmen in acquiring some assets of the Kantale Sugar factory.
Former chief-of-staff I.H. Mahanama and former State Timber Corporation Chairman Piyadasa Dissanayake have been named as the accused in the case.
The Special High Court three-member judge bench had issued summons after considering a charge sheet submitted by the Bribery Commission’s Director General against the suspects.
Initially, the case was heard at the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court. However, the Bribery Commission re-filed the case at the Special High Court after obtaining permission of the Chief Justice.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
